journal – drinking chocolate

Winter is by far, my least favorite season. However, I have gained a new appreciation for this cold-weather season over the last few years, especially with all of the beautiful snow we’ve had! I also look forward to the traditions we’ve started in our family and I love that my kids are at an age where they remember the things we’ve done in past years.

One of the first things we do as soon as there’s a chill in the air, is grab our favorite mugs and enjoy a delicious cup of drinking chocolate… or hot chocolate as most people know it. (My husband hates that I call it drinking chocolate but it just sounds so happy to me! Ha!) My two little jellybeans love making their own and will offer a warm cup to anyone who visits.

It’s really simple to make and tastes much better than those powder mixes with hot water – yuck!

:::Drinking Chocolate Recipe:::

1 serving

1 cup whole milk (I usually just fill my mug full so it’s a little more that 8 oz)

1 tablespoon cocoa

a spoonful or two of real maple syrup

a splash of vanilla extract

a tiny sprinkle of ground cinnamon

warm the milk in microwave or on stovetop, stir in all ingredients. top with homemade whipped cream (every once in awhile my kids get marshmallows but it’s rare). enjoy!

Check out Amélie’s attire… a girl in her own world… I never know what she’ll wear… but I’m never surprised!
