Amanda Mae Taylor

I’ve been capturing stories through the lens for as long as I can remember. As a child, I’d style and photograph my dolls in mismatched outfits. My mom has a box of candid photographs I snapped with my neon green 110 camera in 1993. My favorite photo is of my mom asleep on the couch, her mouth slightly ajar. It tells the story of a single mother with five young girls, enjoying even the briefest moment of rest.

Then there’s the one of my 9-year-old sister with an unforgettable lopsided haircut. My aunt had just finished cutting the left side of her head when my sister decided she hated it and that the haircut was finished. We still laugh about this together 30 years later. This is the power of photographs: the power of laughter, connection, and remembrance.

I remember looking through black and white family photos on my grandparent’s living room floor. I’d ask a hundred questions, relishing in the details of their stories and making connections to my own life. I never stopped. As a visual story collector and photographer, I delight in capturing beautiful moments in time; both ordinary and extraordinary moments, as together, that’s what makes up a life.

Life is full of so much beauty and wonder, and each of our stories hold a unique blend. My goal is to help you see the beauty that is your life, your story. It’s a good one.
