If you’re like me, you know summer is anything but slow. Between swimming lessons, backyard barbecues, gardening, vacations, camping trips, and all the little adventures that fill our days, the season seems to fly by. Before we know it, we’re packing backpacks, filling lunch boxes, and watching the leaves begin to change.
That’s one reason I love summer family photography so much.
A few days each week, I intentionally try to slow down and soak in the season a little longer. For me, that looks like sipping coffee on the porch before my kids wake up, reading outside in the morning sunshine, playing tag in the backyard, eating way too many popsicles, and gardening barefoot alongside my family. These are the moments that make summer feel magical—not because they’re perfect, but because they’re real.
As a mom and Central Ohio family photographer, I believe those everyday moments deserve to be remembered. These days are so simple and precious.
That’s why backyard family photos are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. There’s no rushing out the door, no worrying about whether your kids will feel comfortable in a new location, and no pressure to create picture-perfect moments. Instead, your family gets to simply be together in a place that already holds so many memories—your home! Plus, they can even be barefoot!
Whether your ideal summer evening includes running through sprinklers, roasting marshmallows around the fire pit, taking slow walks around the neighborhood, tending a garden together, or sharing double scoops at your favorite ice cream shop, I’d love to document what this season looks like for your family.
